The AeroPress is super popular in the coffee scene and is indispensable at national and international coffee championships. It combines properties of different brewing methods to a whole new preparation method, with which you can experiment. For us, the AeroPress is a real all-rounder that is also perfect for on the go.
When preparing with the AeroPress, you control all the important factors yourself. This way, you can discover new flavor profiles. We show you in 8 steps how to prepare really good coffee from the AeroPress.
1For one cup, we recommend using 16 g of freshly ground coffee. Use a fine to medium grind, comparable to the grain size of table salt. This ensures an even extraction and the coffee unfolds its full aroma.
2Insert the paper filter into the filter insert and rinse it with hot water to flush out the slight aftertaste of the paper. Push the press plunger from below into the brewing cylinder until just below the 4 mark (you may know how to use it the other way around, but we find it easier this way).
3For 16 g of coffee, we recommend using 200 ml of water. The ideal water temperature for the AeroPress is around 90 °C. Tip: Let your coffee water cool for a good minute after boiling if you cannot adjust the temperature.
4Fill the AeroPress about three-quarters full with water. Stir your coffee evenly so that the coffee grounds are well distributed in the water.
5Pour the remaining water until the AeroPress is filled. Wait half a minute and turn the filter with inserted paper filter on your AeroPress.
6Quickly turn the AeroPress upside down and place it on a cup. Since there is a vacuum in the AeroPress plunger that supports the weight of the water, hardly any coffee will spill out when you turn it upside down - this is perfectly normal.
7Now press the plunger down slowly and evenly for about 30 seconds. For those who like to experiment: If you fill the AeroPress to the 2 mark and press down, you'll brew a strong, concentrated coffee. You can dilute it with water like an Americano.
8To dispose of the coffee grounds, unscrew the filter. When you push the plunger through, the coffee falls out easily and you only have to rinse the rubber seal. After that, the AeroPress is ready for use again - super practical.
